

Atlantic City must have been an amazing place in the early years of this century. I’ve just started reading Working at Play: A History of Vacations in the United States, but already I can tell that Atlantic City plays a large role in this story. The railroad brought the vacationers to the city, which would have as many as 250,000 visitors on a good weekend!
What I love about these shots is that they are studio portraits. The studios were located right on the Boardwalk, along with the other amusements and eating establishments. The one with the single girl is dated July 8, 1917, and is signed Miss Minnie Cohen.
