You may remember that I wrote about this time wrap store in May 2010. I was very sad to learn that Robert Pace, the owner and son of the founder of the store, passed away last fall. For a while the store was closed, but it has now reopened under new owners.
They plan to “modernize without going too far.” Let’s hope they accomplish that goal. I’ll be paying the store a visit in the next few weeks and will have a full report.

RIP Mr. Robert
Oh how sad. I shared the story of this neat store on Retro Roadmap, I’ll make sure to update it with this info.
Thanks, Beth. He was quite a guy! I knew the store had changed hands, but since he had told me it was for sale, I thought he had just sold it. To find out yesterday that he had dies was a shock.
My biggest fear is that the new owners will clean it up too much. We have had several old general stores in our area do that. Then they just become tourist attractions. But the new owners grew up in Saluda, and they know what a role it has played in the life of their town. Own of their grandfathers actually worked in the store in the 1920s!

R.i.p Robert Pace. I will hope for the new owners to make something nice about the shop.
