Vintage Miscellany – May 6, 2012

I spent yesterday evening with my family and so I thought a group photo was in order this morning.  Unfortunately we were not lucky enough to be at the beach (or lake) like the family above, but I bet our food was better!

And on to the news…

*   As much as I hate to say this, the meaning of the word curate has taken on a new meaning, and it looks like it is pretty much here to stay.  Some thoughts on curating and stealing.

*   Betsy Johnson announces that she and Lulu have a new reality show, and almost in the same breath it is announced that her namesake label is headed for bankruptcy.

*   Abercrombie & Fitch is wanting to open on Savile Row, and some people are not happy.  Love their slogan:  Give Three-Piece a Chance.

*   Tomorrow, May7, 2012, Amazon.com will be live streaming the Met Gala.  This summer’s blockbuster exhibit is Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, and it opens May 10.

*   Clothing collector Sandy Schreier has a nice feature in the New York Times.

*   The trials of costuming all those television period dramas:  Get Me Wardrobe.  via @coutureallure

*  Yves Saint Laurent: The Retrospective is in full swing now through July 8 at the Denver Art Museum.  Go before June 17 and you can also see Madeleine Albright’s collection of brooches.

*  The DAM blog had a good post on the installation of the Saint Laurent pieces.  via @hourglass

  1. Reblogged this on The Home Gnome and commented:
Lizzie is one of the best fashion historians I know out there. Okay, she’s one of the only fashion historians I know–but don’t let THAT take away from her awesomeness! Here’s what she has to say about “vintage miscellany.”

  2. Interesting article on “curating” on the internets…but my favorite are those Savile Row protesters! I hope they succeed. Thanks for the great links, Lizzie!
