Purely by accident, I’ve discovered another store that looks as though it is stuck in a time warp. This one is in Bryson City, NC, a small town west of Asheville, on the southern boundary of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Today it survives as the boarding place for a local tourist railroad, so many of the town’s businesses cater to visitors.
But not Smith’s Dry Goods. This store is a mixture of shoes left over from the 1970s and 80s, 1980s Western wear, and modern clothing and boots. They have a large selection of made in the USA Pointer jeans, Dingo boots and men’s socks and underwear.
Best of all, scattered in among the new, are the left overs of seasons past. I’m not sure why, but store like this seem to always have a selection of shoes. Remember KangaRoos? I was surprised to learn that these are still being made, but these are definitely vintage ones.
And they have a nice selection of Water Proofs!
Time was limited, so I had to shop fast. These old school Converse caught my eye, and when the lady priced them at $5, how could I resist?

Oh wow, I swear I had those exact Converse sneaks growing up! I love those “water Poofs” – hysterical! Good find Lizzie!
And that would have been about when???
You’re asking her age? I thought we’d made a pact against doing that!
Opps!
Hi! I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed that post, it totally made me wish I could have explored that place with you! Looking forward to your next adventure. Kel xx
that little store could make a fortune ebaying the NOS!
Yes, and I suspect there is even more in some of those boxes lining the walls!
Looks like a place you could spend hours in!
