UK 60 Years of Fashion Stamps

If you are in the UK then this is very old news to you, but I was thrilled when these Royal Mail stamps appeared in my mailbox last week.  I had admired them when they were released in May, but it never occurred to me that a very nice vintage friend would send the entire set to me.  A big thanks to Louise at Catwalk Creative Vintage for being such a thoughtful friend and colleague!

The stamps represent 60 years of British fashion, starting with Hardy Amies and Norman Hartnell, and ending with Paul Smith and Alexander McQueen.  The list of designs was complied with the assistance of V&A curator Claire Wilcox, and the stamps were designed by graphic designer Johnson Banks and photographed by  photographer Sølve Sundsbø.  The clothing was photographed using live models who were then photo-shopped out of the picture.

I love how the pose and the attitude of each model is reflective of the posing style of the time of each ensemble.  I just wish that the model of the Tommy Nutter suit had done a better job of channeling Ringo Starr, for whom the suit was originally made.

These are fabulous! I especially love the Vivienne Westwood stamp.

  2. Great stamp collection you got there.

The stamp “Granny Takes a Trip” resembles a bit like our late Michael Jackson?
