How to be Boy Watched

Slip into shoes with a marvelously once-upon-a-time look.  That’s definitely now – and then some.  The lustre of hand rubbed leather.  The masterly touch of hand details.  The dash of cutaways and the smash of a new high in heels. Definitely for the girl who knows what’s ticking.  From this moment on.

I think I’d call this ad a pun too far.

I can say that this was a fad that never happened, at least not in my part of the country.  In 1969 I was fourteen, and I’d never have gone to school with a watch on my ankle.  Never.

How about it?  Any of you other Baby Boomers ever send in your 50 cents for a coordinated leather watch strap?

  1. Were you really supposed to wear it on your ankle? Or was this just a clever visual way to get the watch and the show in the same shot? Funny that we may never know- and that future generations may think that we wore our watches on our ankles! Heck they may not even know what watches are! 🙂

  2. What a great ad. So completely and utterly idiotic. It’s interesting to see the trend for yellow and orange hosiery on both sides of the ocean….the same colour tights in my post of 1971 coats

  3. Love the sling backs on the right. I would never have considered the watch but I love the shoes and tights. In the back of Seventeen, there were lots of little ads for trinkets and such. My best friend and I sent away for a little ring with multple bells on it. Within an hour, all the bells came off mine and hers turned her finger green. It sure was fun ordering them though!

  5. I love those watches and those shoes and would wear them in a heartbeat today. I remember wearing gold stockings with my maroon velveteen mini skirt and gold turtleneck sweater in 1969. I was 8.
I agree that the pun it a bit much.

  6. Never saw that ad, or fad, in Oklahoma! Did have an ankle charm. Had to quit wearing it when it kept running my panty hose! Hey, am I dreaming or do you remember panty hose being sold for a quarter when it started getting big? Seems like I remember buying as many as I could then, they were pretty thin so I did go through quite a few pairs. I got them at a local Southern chain called T.G. & Y.

  7. I did have a big fat watch…in orange, of course! However, I never wore it on my ankle and never saw anyone else with such a get up. Just how would you read the time?
