I recently got an email form Robin, who is a regular reader here. She is trying to find the maker of the print of this great 1960s dress. The fabric is screen printed, much like Vested Gentress and Vera textiles were. There is no label in the dress, but there is a big clue.
There is a logo or signature of sorts printed below the big flower. It is a butterfly within a capital G.
I’ve been scratching my head over this one for over a week, so I’m hoping that this will ring a bell with someone here. Any thoughts?

I’m wondering whether this is manufactured or home-made? I have come across a dress pattern showing a mini-dress with a large single motif flower. I will try and find it. Maybe you have one Lizzie in your collection?

No, but I know the pattern of which you speak. It was similar to thins one.

Maybe it is Vested Gentress – the butterfly’s antennae created a “v” and the “G” stands for Gentress? My first thought upon seeing the dress was that it was a Vested Gentress!

That is a thought, and I know who might know. The border flowers look like Vested Gentress, the rest of it, not so much so.

i think it is manufactured, not homemade. it’s just a little TOO regular to be made by even a good home-sewer. But it’s fairly basic. it’s two panels, and the only thing differing the front from the back is the bust darts.
I didn’t think about those ’60s DIY panel dresses…i’ve never seen one with a logo, though, besides shaheen’s.

The only ones I’ve ever seen that were signed were Shaheen as well. The dress does look manufactured to me, just from the photos. No little hiding union label?

No luck in my finding that pattern but looking at the chrysanthemum? flower motifs I am reminded of Japanese drawn and painted textiles.The leaves are very nicely done. The button holes are often the give-away on an unlabeled piece if home-made.
