Before anyone accuses me of living in the past, I do realize that the holiday season is definitely over. It’s just that I bought this card way back in February before the world imploded, and then I forgot to post it. But, what the heck? It’s pretty, and I say we need some beauty right now.
And now for the news…
- Are you watching Bridgerton? It’s a sort of fantasy world Regency drama with intentionally incorrect (but stunningly beautiful) costumes, and some startling modern themes. Women smoking cigarettes. a “colorblind” society. A Gossip Girl type slander sheet. Don’t go into it expecting historical accuracy, especially when it comes to corsets.
- The site of a 1721 silk mill will be a museum dedicated to making things.
- No snow where you are? Enjoy these photos from the American Museum of Photography of people enjoying fake snow.
- I’ve always said that quilters were the first modern artists.
- Audrey Hepburn was married twice, but she had three wedding gowns (four if you count the Givenchy dress she worn in Funny Face).
- A visual history of handbags.
- A new member of the House of Representatives, Cori Bush, went to thrift stores for her congressional wardrobe.
- “Elise Wortley is replicating the achievements of historical female adventurers, wearing only the gear that would have been available to them at the time.”
- “Colour our clothes, not our waterways.”
Loving / living / appreciation of past – as far as i am concerned – is the description of a professional archivist as you .This is the first holiday vintage fashion card i have ever seen. So chic . Thankyou for this saver!

I don’t think of it as living in the past, I think of it as a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship of the past and a longing for quality materials not available anymore. Down the road from me is a large cotton farm that is now producing selvedge denim from a long shuttered mill. The cotton is picked, ginned and made into fabric in a 10 mile radius. The company is Vidalia Mills..

I haven’t heard of Vidalia Mills, so thanks for that. It’s good to know denim is still being made in the USA.

I watched Bridgerton, and really quite enjoyed it. I figured right off the bat not to expect accuracy. The costumes were just so much fun.
