A Walk Through New York

People who know me know that I love to walk.  When I was teaching I’d walk home from school and I’d often have little kids stop me to ask me if I did not own a car.  I’m an early morning walker, and so I often get to see a place before it fully awakes.  At 7 AM even New York is a relatively sleepy city.

We were a little too late to see most of the Holiday windows and decorations.  It might have been January, but at Saks, spring had arrived.

The mannequins at Louis Vuitton were all set for a bit of travel.  That yellow would sure come in handy at the checked luggage carousel.

Herve Leger at Bergdorf Goodman.  Love the dress, love the window.

Of course the Bergdorf Goodman windows are so great that they now have their own book.   This display was in the little window beside the Fifth Avenue door.  Windows within the window.

Some of the jewelers were still in a festive mood.  Thank you, Harry Winston…

and Bulgari.

Here was a bit of Samsonite luggage to delight any lover of the city.  It’s called CityScapes.

And finally, a bit of yarn bombing.  It’s such a cozy little tree.

I know that some of you must be thinking that I’ve milked that New York trip long enough, and so you might be glad to know this is my final post about the city – at least until I visit again!

  2. I too love to get up early and walk around to photograph and discover things in (relative) peace. I always think I’ve found something that the folks who will later hustle and bustle themselves on the busy streets will miss. I don’t think you’ve milked your NYC visit at all – despite the Chain-ification of so much of it, it still is a big wonderful glorious city (and that’s high praise considering I’m a born and bred New England gal, where people say “why go to New York? We have all we need in Boston.” ;-))

  3. My South Beach trip last weekend was to support a friend running the ING marathon, so I was on the streets at 6:30 am, which suits me because morning is my favorite time in urban space also. You can appreciate the architecture, shop windows and vistas in peace. I am loving your NYC posts, you would have to really go on much longer to exhaust this great city!

  4. OH Nooooooooo…. in my opinion, the Big Apple comments were getting better and better! Especially love the trees covered with yarn trim called “yarn bombing”… also the “city scape” luggage.

Last time I saw New York was in 1950 and was “blown away” by the Camel Cigarette billboard designed to blow out smoke rings. Anyone know when they replaced that billboard with what-ever?

  10. How nice all your comments are! I appreciate all the encouragement. Just so you’ll know, I did do more than look into shop windows and think about fashion. I just posted the things I thought would be of most interest to fashion fiends!

  11. Thanks Lizzie, for your reply about the Camel Cigarette smoke ring blowing billboard….That billboard was something to see…it was as famous as the Empire State Building in its day..

  12. I love the NYC posts, especially seeing it in the morning before most people are awake (I too am an early-bird!). It’s also nice to see the Vuitton window and a little peek of the 1970s shining through.
